Why use educational games?

All children like games. They may all be different in their academic abilities, but one thing they share in common is that they enjoy playing games. Educational games allow children to enjoy learning while concentrating more closely on it. Sometimes they may not even realize they are learning. They will participate in learning more willingly if playing a game than they would while doing worksheets or book work.
Games that require more than one person are especially effective because they help children to develop communication and cooperation skills. Also, educational games can be a good way for parents to spend time with their children in the home.
Games can also be used as a form of assessment. If a student repeatedly gives correct answers during a math or science game, for example, it is evident that that student has mastered that information. This can provide less need for testing.
Using games can be an easy way for children to learn because they will become more willing to learn if they are playing a game. Games are fun and children will enjoy them and likely will begin to enjoy learning.
